While I was doing my preparatory course in “Advanced Film Scoring and Production” in Bonn, our class was introduced to a number of directors from the U.S. in Spring 2022, studying abroad in Germany for a few months and writing, directing, shooting and producing their own short documentaries. We had a short matchmaking with presentations from either side and everyone could then choose their partner to bring the project to a success.
After getting acquainted with Callie Mejia through this matchmaking and doing that documentary, we stayed in touch a little bit afterwards. Around February 2023, she reached out to me to score her final project, another short documentary about oil rigs turning into reefs under water. On both occasions, the work environment was very positive and productive, and we managed to create a wonderful film together. She got to show it at the NFFTY-Festival in April 2024 and won the Audience Award.
